A scientific study shows a possible link between exposure to certain pesticides and prostate cancer in the Caribbean!
Scientists at the'équipe Professor Belpomme conducted a study multifactorial in Martinique and Guadeloupe in order to elucidate the reasons for the particularly high prevalence of prostate cancer in these islands (one of the highest in the world).
The Survey, published in the latest issue of the journal "International Journal of Oncology", shows that the curves'augmentation cases of prostate cancer differ between metropolitan France and the French West Indies since the'année 1983.
For authors, the fact that these curves are not parallel suggests that, although they pose is some genetic susceptibility to specific populations of the Caribbean, this factor alone can not explain this increase The incident cancer cases prostate in both islands.
The Survey also shows clearly that water pollution is associated with areas of banana cultivation and the general population studied in the mid-1970 was contaminated with extremely high levels of POPs pesticides such as DDT, HCH The'aldrin or dieldrin.
The Survey concludes that growing The incident cases of prostate cancer in Martinique and Guadeloupe can not be related to a change in ethnographic factors or a change in lifestyles and suggests that environmental factors, such as 'exposition the intense and prolonged to pesticides are carcinogenic, mutagenic and reproductive toxins can cause cancer of the prostate and that this exposure could be involved in the dramatic growth of The incident of prostate cancer in Martinique and Guadeloupe.
